Monmouth Football Players Giving Back
On October 21, 2013 several players from the Monmouth University Football Team came to Maple Place Middle School and Wolf Hill Elementary School in Oceanport to read to the 5th grade students. The players visited the various classrooms and read to a very interested audience.
The players were able to come and share their own personal love of learning with the students. The students were extremely excited. This was a great opportunity for the college athletes to give back to the local community.
Mr. Kirchner, one of the 5th grade teachers said that “the students were extremely excited to learn that college football players would be spending time with them in their classes. It really helps inspire the students to want to succeed.”
While none of the players have aspirations of pursuing a career in the field of education, Terrance Scanlon shared that “I understand how important it is for kids to do well in school. I hope my visit will have a positive impact on the students.”
As for the 5th graders who spent time with the players it was apparent that it was an experience they would not forget anytime soon. As Nick Poulos said, “having football players come to our classes was really cool. I can’t wait to go college someday too.”
The players who visited were Bob Davies, Dom Esposito, Terrance Scanlon, and Brandon Suk.PhotosVideo
